How to calculate the value of wedding gold
In many cultures gold is at the heart of a wedding: bangles and necklaces in South Asian weddings, gold sets in the Gulf, coins pinned on the couple at Turkish weddings. Years later, many couples wonder what all of it is actually worth today.
Add each item by weight and karat (or by number of coins), and the calculator values it at today's market price. If you add the wedding date, you will also see the value on the day and how it has changed, plus a 12-month chart.
An example list
| Item | Weight / quantity | Pure gold |
|---|---|---|
| 22K bangles | 60 g | ≈ 55.0 g |
| 22K necklace set | 40 g | ≈ 36.6 g |
| 18K rings | 10 g | ≈ 7.5 g |
| Total | 110 g | ≈ 99.1 g of pure gold |
To see today's value of a list like this, open the "Wedding Gold" tab and enter the same items.
What to know before selling wedding gold
The result is a reference value based on the market price of the gold inside your jewellery. When you sell to a jeweller, they usually pay their own buying price, which is a little below market value. Making charges you paid when buying jewellery are normally not refunded when you sell it back.
Keep a record
- Make a list of each piece with its weight and karat. Receipts often show both.
- Not sure of the weight? Any jeweller can weigh and test your pieces.
- Store safely, for example in a bank safe deposit box.
My wedding was before 2024
Price history is available from 2 March 2024. If you enter an earlier date, the calculator simply shows today's value. You don't need a date at all to see today's value.
